getting married because she's pregnant?

This is based on what is best for the child. Problem is, people tend to get so wrapped around themselves or the relationship because they're not yet fully mature or prepared. If you and your partner can make the relationship work out and keep it without resentments, yes, you should get married. I've seen it happen, it has worked out for the best for other families. If it will just hurt you, your partner, or your baby then don't- you must consider the effect of your relationship will have on the child.

Do you think it's a good idea to get married simply because you're pregnant?

Why are marriage and children still the same?

Why do so so so many people automatically assume that if you are getting married or want to get married, that means you are going to have kids right away? Especially in this day and age when so many people are waiting to get married until they are completely confident in their relationships. Sometimes waiting up to ten years to get married, and oftentimes they already have kids by the time they get married. Why are marriage and children still synonymous?

How has life changed after marriage?

I was wondering about the stuffs that my sisters used to do before marriage and how they have their priorities changed over the years. Most people grow and shift their focus, they have to for whatever reasons. If you ask me, it would be difficult to manage hours of internet time, me-time, the rendezvous with myself that get me going. But we lose some, we gain some. That is how life is!

from the perspective of a whole lot of friends who I have seen undergo a change.

As you have put it Mimi, the me-time in all respects internet, interests, lazing around all changes to quite an extent. It does not all stop, but gets considerably reduced. It changes to we-time.

Another thing I've noticed a distinct change are in basic habits, cleanliness, dressing sense. Guys I've know loved to be shabbily dressed, unshaven, room in a mess. All that has changed.

Some used to enjoy socializing, partying by themselves and with friends. It's changed to going about it as a couple or totally stopped.

While there is an equal acceptance on one side for change for the better, there are some who miss the single days. Some who longed to get married, now miss the things that they enjoyed being single and some who are single still, wonder at the the things that they should be enjoying together. Their thinking is always been that the grass is greener on the other side. But it's individual experience i guess, depending on the nature of the person and how they adapt to the concept of being in a relationship or married.

How has life changed after marriage or after being in a relationship? Do you miss things that you got to enjoy being single?

Looks or Personality

At my age now and with all my experiences regarding relationships.I believe we need to look at the persons personality first then if looks is important then that's the 2nd thing we should consider in finding a partner. No matter how handsome or beautiful your partner is if you don't get along well and that person doesn't possess a good personality or attitude then definitely you will not have a harmonious relationship together.

So for me I make sure that I can get along with that person and I have to know him more and be with him to know how he's like as a person and then the "LOOKs" is just a 2nd thing to me and it's just a consolation price actually.

Heal and Forgive

Well, it's a long dramatic story; briefly, DH got into a fight with sister Christmas 07 and hasn't seen or talked to her since. DH broke down when his mom started crying about the rift and invited sister to join us over this past weekend for our son's 5th B-day party.

So, it's been almost 3 years since she's been in our lives, but it was like she was always here! I'm so happy it's over and I'm truly hoping this will be a new beginning, for us all. This fight, escalated to his mom and she was cut out completely too, but from Dec 07 to July 09... I really struggle with his family sometimes, as it's very large, very dramatic, very loud, very demanding... they have alot of expectations that really grind on DH and I. We are very quiet, hate drama, some call us reclusive and/or antisocial. But we just like our cozy little life and we hate nothing more than when we are expected to be/do/attend/particapate in stuff that we normally wouldn't or that seems like an obligation. (We DO because we WANT to, not because we're obligated)

Despite all that, coupled with the fact that I don't have ANY family, I gently urged DH to forgive and forget - and finally he did. I have very mixed feelings. Happy because Auntie was very good to our son, he loved being with her and she was one of the closest people to me and was incredibly supportive/helpful to me when our son was born. Happy because our son truly loves Auntie and Cousin. Happy because we don't HAVE to miss events that we want to attend to avoid Auntie.

On the other hand, apprehensive because this has happened before, and history often repeats itself. Dreading the expectations of being 'back' in the family. Afraid people will STILL not accept OUR lifestyle and just let us be and trust we aren't being antisocial - we just don't want to XXX.
Just a vent I guess. Anybody ever healed a huge family rift and moved on happily? Suggestions on success?

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love

There is no specific or exact time to know and wait for someone you love for life. It comes in unexpected situation in life. Often, when they do not search for it, then right person comes.Given at the proper place and time. If not in such time, it is a matter of choices to choose the person around you who considered special to you and you to him.

The right someone can be anybody. You may have no idea who he is. But, when love form in a way of attraction and real love, affection and chances. Then you gonna realize that what you are waiting for is already in front of you..

Never Stop Growing, Never Stop Learning

One never stops learning and growing. When it comes to nurturing a relationship. What are some of you favorite ways you practice to nurture a relationship with your significant other? Will love to read your views, choices and cultural practices.

This is such an extremely key element in the success of any relationship!!

Open communication where relatively anything can be said
Turn based communication: I state my case, he states his
Listening time: I state my case, no argument, he states his, no argument
Compliment each other often
Laugh in a serious situation
Say random silly things
Leave each other random notes
Don't spend every waking moment together or focused on each other
Take nothing for granted
We don't make promises - Broken promises , intentional or not, lead to negative feelings
We dont lavish each other with money or material things - This makes the occasional gift a truly special, more appreciated thing
We share our spiritual views
We both meditate regularly
We both exercise regularly - he martial arts/weights.. I do yoga and kickboxing
We compromise on simple things
We try not to dwell on the negative for long amounts of time
We are brutally honest with each other - When he thinks I'm acting like a spoiled little brat, he will say so. When I feel as if his friends are influencing him in a negative manner, I tell him. Then we discuss why we each feel that way.

'fall in love' online

Nowadays, chatting had become so popular. And people are building relationships through the internet. They talk for long hours, typing, sharing their thoughts, life, hobbies etc.. with total strangers. And beyond the distance, even if you are across the globe, on two different continents, you feel a connection, an invisible bond that makes you feel so special. Then, friendship leads to flirting, or the other way around, flirting leads to friendship. Or flirting leads to meeting each other in real life. Some say it is all lust and play. It is not Love. It can't be Love. But some even gets married and have children. They swear they have met their soul-mate, the missing piece of their heart,...in short true love.

I know it's possible to find true love on the internet via online chatting, emailing, etc... But how can you tell it is true love? That the feeling you are sharing is true, without pretension or alter motives?

Would you let a friend use your bed/sheets if they were staying with you?

Okay, here's the scenario: I'm gonna be spending the weekend with a few friends' at their apartment. One of them is not gonna be there because he's going on a cruise with his girlfriend. Before anyone could suggest something, he made it vehemently made it clear that I cannot use his bed while he's gone. In fact, he doesn't want anyone in his room at all.

I hadn't even considered using his bed- especially thinking of all the things he and her girlfriend has probably done on that bed. However, it got me thinking and comparing his reaction to my other friends. I've known this friend since elementary school; 5th grade to be exact. Yet, I'm not allowed to use his bed while I'm spending the night. In contrast, my group of friends that I've met only a few years ago have offered me their bed, sleeping bags, etc. whenever I spend the night at their places. I guess some people are just more protective of their things than others.

What about you? Would you let a friend use your bed/sheets if they were staying with you? Especially if you're not gonna be there?

do you think long distance relationships work?

Do you truly think long distance relationships work? i have a friend whose boyfriend is a truck driver so they only see each other on weekends and sometimes not even every weekend. then i have a second cousin who is dating a guy who lives five states away. they have to plan vacations to see each other.

It's really difficult to keep a long distance relationship but it also the very time to test your love for each other. I think true love is not only the physical connection but the mental connection. So if two people really fall in love, they can feel each other at any places.

Do you think either relationship will really work?

Do you and your family still dine together?

Do you and your family still eat together?

There are some families who can't afford to do this anymore because of their busy schedules, but I think this should not happen because I think during meal time is one of the best time to gather all family members and have a talk on what's happening with each other. I think it would be much better if a family still eats together at least once a day, maybe during dinner...

When I was a child I remember to be always on time for dinner with the whole family as it was a sort of a tradition for us at home. My father was always the one to insist that we eat together. We used to discuss everything either about school, college, work and gossips. It was fun and amazing.

Later on my dad started working late and everyone had a busy schedule as they say so we no more eat together on the table. I miss those days a lot.

At my boyfriend's place I insist that we eat together because we get little time and I want to spend it together by eating and talking. It is good and nice to do this.

This is timely for those people who are currently facing life's trial over their marriage.

This is a long post and hope you give at least a little of your time reading it. This is timely for those people who are currently facing life's trial over their marriage. This is a good read...

"When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and
said, I've got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes. Suddenly I didn't know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce.. I raised the topic calmly. She didn't seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly,
why?

I avoided her question. This made her angry. She threw away the
chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man! That night, we didn't
talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what
had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory
answer; she had lost my heart to Dew. I didn't love her anymore. I just
pitied her!

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated
that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company.

She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. The woman who had spent
ten years of her life with me had become a stranger. I felt sorry for
her wasted time, resources and energy but I could not take back what I
had said for I loved Dew so dearly. Finally she cried loudly in front of
me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a
kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several
weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now.

The next day, I came back home very late and found her writing something
at the table. I didn't have supper but went straight to sleep and fell
asleep very fast because I was tired after an eventful day with Dew.

When I woke up, she was still there at the table writing. I just did not care so I turned over and was asleep again.

In the morning she presented her divorce conditions: she didn't want
anything from me, but needed a month's notice before the divorce.

She requested that in that one month we both struggle to live as normal a
life as possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his exams in a
month's time and she didn't want to disrupt him with our broken
marriage.

This was agreeable to me. But she had something more, she asked me to
recall how I had carried her into out bridal room on our wedding day.

She requested that everyday for the month's duration I carry her out of
our bedroom to the front door ever morning.. I thought she was going
crazy. Just to make our last days together bearable I accepted her odd
request.

I told Dew about my wife's divorce conditions... She laughed loudly and
thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she applies, she has to
face the divorce, she said scornfully..

My wife and I hadn't had any body contact since my divorce intention was
explicitly expressed. So when I carried her out on the first day, we
both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy s holding mummy
in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to
the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in
my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don't tell our son about
the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside
the door. She went to wait for the bus to work. I drove alone to the
office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my
chest. I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I
hadn't looked at this woman carefully for a long time.. I realized she
was not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her face, her hair
was graying! Our marriage had taken its toll on her. For a minute I
wondered what I had done to her.

On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a sense of intimacy
returning. This was the woman who had given ten years of her life to me.

On the fifth and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy was
growing again. I didn't tell Dew about this. It became easier to carry
her as the month slipped by. Perhaps the everyday workout made me
stronger.

She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried on quite a few
dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, all my
dresses have grown bigger. I suddenly realized that she had grown so
thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily. Suddenly it
hit me... she had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head.

Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it's time to carry mum out.
To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an
essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer
and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I
might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms,
walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly;
it was just like our wedding day.

But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held
her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I
held her tightly and said, I hadn't noticed that our life lacked
intimacy.

I drove to office.... jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the
door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind...I walked
upstairs. Dew opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Dew, I do not
want the divorce anymore.

She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead.. Do you have
a fever? She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Dew, I said, I
won't divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I
didn't value the details of our lives, not because we didn't love each
other any more. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on
our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us apart. Dew seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away.

At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and
wrote, I'll carry you out every morning until death do us apart.

That evening I arrived home, flowers in my hands, a smile on my face, I run up stairs, only to find my wife in the bed - DEAD."

The small details of your lives are what really matter in a
relationship. It is not the mansion, the car, property, the money in the
bank. These create an environment conducive for happiness but cannot
give happiness in themselves. So find time to be your spouse's friend
and do those little things for each other that build intimacy. Do have a
real happy marriage!

Are you willing to love the person for the second time?

Every time we love we always make sure that it will be forever so there’s no more time and love to waste. But sometimes we really can’t tell, somehow along our way we still meet someone that will truly capture our heart, the person that we love the most and want to cherish with our life. If I meet the person I loved before, it depends. It depends on what has happened in the past and why we broke up or drift apart. If it is because of cheating or something that relates to trust then I don’t think I will be willing to love that person a second time.

I actually have a policy, once I broke up with a girl that it is forever. There must be a reason why we broke up in the first place. Even though I’m not willing to love her again that doesn’t mean I don’t want to be friend with her or anything. In fact, one of my ex-girlfriend is now still friends with me and my girlfriend too.

Religion & Relationship

In my opinion, religion matters a lot in any relationship. in the beginning a boy or girl feel that they can adopt the other's religion. but as they progress in their lives it stands up to create rifts between them. since the birth till we marry, we are used to the traditions parents follow. after marriage if the traditions change, if they have to follow new things, it goes against the deep rooted beliefs. slowly resentment sets in. they why way back our elders used to marry people from similar backgrounds, with same eating habits, same religion and status in society. these days they have disregarded every bit of those old methods with a misguided concept of they know better.

Just by knowing each other for a few days or a couple of years they think they understood each other inside out so they can live happily ever after.not true.not possible.any way nobody is going to listen to other's cautioning words.they want find it out in a painful way.
