Cultures

I forget where these people do this and I don't have this video anymore so I know people will say. "oh it's just a hoax yadda yadda yadda. But nah it is actually.

About two years ago I saw a video and it was like in Africa I think. But for people who have headaches, they cut off a finger to stop thinking about the pain of the headache.....

They cut finger OFF to stop thinking about the headache...so what do they do next to stop them from thinking about the pain of their finger?

Again for those who don't believe me that is totally fine but you must have heard of something like this. I respect all cultures but there are some strange things people do.

What have you heard about other cultures of countries who do things you don't feel right about?

Drop Out

Kind of feeding off from another discussion about teenagers, I often think of this: I surely hope my children don't ever want to drop out of high school. I want them to graduate from HIGH SCHOOL-not drop out or get kicked out and end up at a continuation school or only getting their GED. I believe that high school teaches responsibility and dedication, as well as learning to deal with peer issues, understanding punctuality, etc. I am not a fan of continuation school because the state mandates far less work and structure from its students, not to mention many times "problem students" attend because they could not make it work in the regular high school setting. I think allowing your child to drop out of school shows that it is not important to strive to do your best, or it is OK to mess up because there is always something else to fall back on. Am I old-school for the way I think? I think maybe I am uneducated nowadays with how schools work, and maybe it is a lot harder for a teen to truly succeed in high school, resulting in the reasons more kids either do drop out all together, or go the continuation or GED route.

What do you think? Have you had your teens drop out of school? Did you allow it or were they kicked out of regular school? What the reasons they either dropped completely or they decided continuation school was better?

Zip Your Mouth

Harsh Words, Profane language, and words of discouragement. Those are the words need not to be said. It will only destroy one's morale and may even lose one's self control.

If we cannot say a good words to a situation, the best thing we can do is just to keep our silence. If we cannot think of a right words to say, just zip our mouth. It will not help if we keep on criticizing those persons that needs our ears to listen.

Sometimes, Silence is good enough to console a friend. A sweet Hug can do so much for a troubled soul. It's being there when a friend or love one's need us. Our presence may mean a whole new hope and will strengthens a sorrowful heart.

Give it to every one who needs it. You do not have to go so far, just look at the person besides you. They might need a friend right now. Or a love one, they might need a shoulder to cry to. have a heart. share your blessings.

Unknowingly Hurt Feelings

Well most of us have come across this situation in some part of our personal or career lives, that unknowingly we hurt the feelings of a person, sometimes they may be our close pals.

Even in a fit of rage, i lost one of my good friends, though i did not want to lose my friend, but it happened. Some times i speak frankly and people misinterpret as arrogance, but some of my friends are empathetic, whom i will never wanna lose.

And i 'm always wary that i don't hurt any one's feelings.

Understanding

A lot of people are finding it hard to understand other people. But for some people it is even harder to understand himself. A lot of self-help books are becoming more popular these days because many people realized they need a lot of help, especially in understanding oneself. In my class one day, I asked my students the simple question "Who are you?", aside from telling their names, address, age, and other common information, they can't seem to go on. They run out of things they knew about themselves or understand about themselves. Upon further probing, they realized they need to get to know themselves more and was challenge to do so.

Knowing ones weakness and strength will help us to adjust, learn and even change for the better, and be the person we should be.

Understanding self makes one accept and love oneself more. And eventually can also make understanding others easier.

Insulted

Lately one of my friends(not a close guy but i felt he wasn't worth telling such words about me) gave me a very very nasty insult in front of the whole class. I was too depressed with his words that my eyes were filled. Words cam rushing to the tip of my tongue but someway i managed not to speak and left the class in silence putting my head down. I felt better after sometime but, i again felt a fury in me when i saw him again. I almost felt the pulses of my heart, every word he said was ringing in my ears like he had just mentioned them. Only then i thought i should have shed my anger out there at the very instant i wanted too.

How about you, do you walk away in silence and later feel angry on him or do you throw your anger on him on the very instant he insulted you?

Insecurity

I think one of the main reasons why people tend to lie about their lives is insecurity. Especially in the case of old friends who haven't seen each other in a long time. Sometimes the image of their old friends that's embedded in their minds was from years ago and then when they finally meet up, they're surprised at how successful or 'changed' their old friends are and when they try to look at themselves and see what they've become, sadly they realize that they're not quite as successful as their friends and they become insecure so they make up stories to somehow 'level up' to their friends.

Tastes change as we get older

Here's another off topic subject to get you thinking of something you may not think of too often: Are there foods that you use to love when you were a child that you find gross now? Our tastes can change tremendously as we get older, to the point where we can't even eat foods that used to be our favourites.

For me? I loved pasta, my favourite being good old macaroni and cheese. To this day I still love pasta. However strangely as a child I never liked sweet food e.g cake, ice cream or chocolate. Then as a teenager waitressing I started to crave sweet food, probably after serving customers dessert after dessert. However thankfully I only eat dessert in moderation as I try and maintain a healthy diet.

There are other foods that I didn't like as a child that I have found I quite enjoy as an adult some examples are blue vein cheese and salad.

the Mayans theory

Many say that the year 2012 will be the end of the world because of the Mayan Calendar, or the Mayan theory. Do you believe in this prediction? Well, if you ask me, it’s so hard to tell. I have heard so many predictions already and some happened and most of the time NOT. Honestly, I really don’t believe in predictions because from the word itself we can define the meaning of it. However, as what is happening in our world today I can say that maybe it is true. Just like what happened in our country last year (2009), we have experienced a typhoon that almost killed thousands of people for only a day. Actually, not only people have killed but also millions of people wealth had lost. This year 2010 many countries also experienced typhoon, tsunami, and earthquake that also killed hundred of thousands of people and their wealth and properties. Almost every week I heard in the news different countries that experienced this kind of tragedy. I’m really wondering in all the things that happened nowadays are already the signs for the Mayans theory. What do you think? Do you believe that we all gonna die? I’m not scared to die actually but I’m afraid of the possibilities might happen before I die.

Success

I think individually people have accomplished success. But their success is built from the contributions and support of others. No matter how difficult it was to reach their goal and what they say, it has involved others. Those who deny it may possibly just be focusing on how much work they themselves put in and consider that by claiming they were in it alone, they get the 100% credit. But those successful people did make the decisions and follow their directions by their work, so it's not exactly fair to be critical.

Some people think it must be made by him. If he doesn't like to tell something, people can not know the truth of his behind. I think if people would like to make success which is indispensable to something like family's care, lover's support, friends' assist and the help of some people who have a golden heart and so on. Few people create success alone.

Thinking

If you are talking to yourself silently, then that is not talking to yourself, that's is called "thinking" we all do it, some of us have good control of what we think, others just go with it and let their mind take them place places their body may never go, some of us have crazy thoughts, we allow ourself to believe them and then we end up on medication.

The mind is a wonderful thing, that's why they have some many self help books out there, everyone wants to try to control this beautiful thing, IMO is uncontrollable. shocked

Talking to yourself is just that "talking" to yourself, I do this as well, when I am around other people I may talk very low, like I am playing out my thoughts " I am going to do this first' OR "should I buy this one" I have no shame in talking to myself, as long as I am not talking crazy like some people do, I don't see a problem with it.

Bad Day

How do you bound back from a bad day?...

Do you...

*have a long soak in a tub and eat a lot of ice cream?
*call up some friends and meet with them and share what's going on?
*hurry home and surf the net wherever your mood takes you online?
*just simply sleep and just normally wake up the next day

or

*you just simply accept reality that bad days do come visit once in a while?

How do you deal with bad days? How do you bounce back from it?
