I grew up with dogs as pets

I grew up with dogs as pets, but as an adult I wasn't able to get a dog for one reason or another until I bought my first house. Then it was just a matter of having the time to train a dog, so I waited until late spring (my wife teaches so she could be with the dog every day during the summer) before adopting.

I chose to get a pound puppy because they are the LAST dogs to get a chance at homes and mutts are often healthier than the "pure" breeds.

What i have learned? Take an obedience class with your dog. Watch shows like "Good Dog U' and "It's Me or the Dog" on Animal Planet. Read books about dog training and best dog food. See a vet right away and make sure to schedule regular check-ups.
