Start Saving at Walgreen's Prescription Savings Club!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Express Scripts is the middleman between the pharmacies and the health plan who pays for our medication, Walgreens and Express Script tried until the very end to renegotiate their contract with no budge from the middleman and as a result, as of Jan, 1st 2012 all express scripts patients had to find a new prescription wellness home or seek other options. However, due to unsuccessful negotiations between Walgreens and Express Script, which had been going on for a whole year, Walgreens is no longer part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network.

During negotiation, Walgreens offered to keep costs flat and did not ask for an increase. Express Scripts insisted on controlling the definitions of generic drugs, and other contract terms. Walgreens was left with no say in the matter.  Express Scripts has even stated that patients will see no savings from this change. Patients may even see an increase because of Walgreens offers competitive pricing on many prescriptions.

I'm not trying to "beat anyone up" here, but I hate when I see things like this that affect our military. It’s also frustrating for people who will end up paying more for their drugs. Things are already hard enough in this economy!

To help make a smooth and affordable transition for those affected, and to ease the burden, Walgreens Prescription Savings Club is offering promotional pricing of $5 for individual membership and $10 for family members from Jan. 1 to Jan. 31 to be in the program, which offers one-year discounts on prescriptions. Normally, membership is $20 a year for individuals and $35 for families.

Other benefits include:

  • Medications in all drug classes covering most common and chronic health conditions.
  • More than 8,000 brand name and generic medications.
  • Over 400 generics priced at $12 for a 90-day supply - that's less than $1 a week!

I use a prescription discount card called RxDrugCard. My whole family is covered for $4.95 a month. Their website has a place to see your meds' prices before you sign up. It's worth a look.
